New solar panels to reduce Birchall’s energy usage

Birchall Foodservice reducing its carbon footprint by installing hundreds of solar panels

The Burnley-based wholesaler started work last week on 388 clean energy solar panels to be fitted on its main warehouse roof.

The changes will save more than 50 tonnes of carbon each year for the Country Range Group member, which will aid the company’s goal to protest the environment and build a greener future.

Birchall’s quest to work more sustainably doesn’t end there. With the solar panels reducing operating costs and future energy bills, the wholesaler is investing the cash it will free up into a new fleet of electric vehicles.

The moves are the latest in a line of sustainability initiatives Birchall has been involved with in recent years, including the formation of its Plastic Action group to reduce the amount of plastic used in the business.

“We’re fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint throughout the business,” said Operations Director Nicola Watson.

“The installation of these solar panels is the next step in our journey to becoming one of the greenest foodservice providers in the country.”
