Woods Foodservice edges closer to goal
Recent high score takes the foodservice wholesaler one step forward towards its net-zero target
Reflecting its continuous work on sustainability, foodservice wholesaler Woods Foodservice has achieved a Silver Medal climate score upon completion of its 2024 carbon assessment.
The Caterforce member has been carbon neutral since 2021, with Woods’ overarching goal to become the UK’s leading net zero contributor foodservice company by 2030.
Working with Greenly, a global carbon management platform with B-Corp status, Woods carried out its annual assessment into its carbon footprint, which includes analysis of waste management, energy consumption, supply chain processes and the overall monitoring of emission sources.
The assessment revealed a number of key actions that can be adopted by all operators in foodservice, which are favour in-season ingredients, ensure optimal routing and loading of trucks, raise the share of organic products, replace dairy products with plant-based alternatives, select local suppliers, and implement carbon impact conditions in purchasing policies to ensure sustainable supply chains.
